One of the highest viewed blog post on Cashcowcannabis.com was the one about cannabis jobs, this one right here. I decided to dive in a little deeper and find some one in the industry that has expertise in cannabis job hunting. lo and behold I found Greenseek.co. Owned an operated by "anonymous" who we will call Mme Blunt. I was fortunate enough to have Mme Blunt answer a few questions for us newbies...
CCC: What is Greenseek.co?
Mme Blunt: Greenseek is a job board exclusive to the medical and legal marijuana industries. Professionals interested in marijuana jobs can submit their resumes into our database for employers to reach. We empower employment in one of America's fastest growing industries, and clients rely on Greenseek's strategic solutions and marketing to attract and hire top talent.
CCC: How would you recommend getting your foot in the door?
Mme. Blunt: Many people still don't know about the very normal jobs that exist in the marijuana industry, skills can range from sales and marketing, to growing and Budtending, anyone starting college can direct a variety of different skills and knowledge towards a marijuana career. That's what makes this so exciting, marijuana is becoming a commercialized industry, these new job types have become necessary for companies and employers, in order to scale their business with the markets growth. For college students who are specifically interested in growing, should definitely look into agriculture or botany degrees. Students should also check if their University offers any Marijuana courses, some colleges that do are Boston University, Stanford University, Texas A&M and other colleges across the nation. Truthfully, it's most important for job seekers to learn about the state they want to work in and stay informed with regulations, laws and licensing. Some states require badges or licenses for people to work in the industry, and not every company or dispensary requires the same training and certification. If a job seeker shows an employer that they have been proactive with required certificates and licensing, it will give them a strong advantage.
CCC: What events/decisions led you to open your cannabis business?
Mme Blunt: I have been watching the industry for a while, I started paying attention to the big pharma players a couple of years ago and bought GW Pharma stocks, price per share went from I think 40 bucks to over $110 since 2013. The industry has been accelerating these past few years and it’s a great time to get involved. Today, Marijuana startups receive funding, more states are pushing for medicinal use and a handful more are gearing up for the November 2016 ballots to propose legalization. It’s really just been America’s direction that led me to start Greenseek, we have a chance to help build an industry and capture a market that didn’t exist 20 years ago.
CCC: Has there been a single event/decision that lead to growth in your company? if so please explain
Mme Blunt: This is a pretty unique industry to be working in, we obviously all have our competitors but overall, everyone is willing to help and wants to work together to continue building the industry. There hasn’t been one single event that led to growth, but support from the community and direction from industry leaders has helped Greenseek quickly move forward.
CCC: What podcasts do you listen to?
Mme Blunt: I listen to High Time News Hit podcast, I’m more of a reader.
CCC: What blogs do you frequent?
Mme Blunt: I read a lot of tech and marketing blogs, but within the marijuana industry I am a big fan of Leafly’s blog, The Weed Blog, TheStreet.com, NORML, and the MPP’s site. An issue I’ve come across is the amount of opinions circulating this industry rather than cited news and data. I feel like the blogs above do a really good job at staying fresh on industry news and happenings while providing factual statements and data with cited work.
CCC: How do you network? via twitter, going to events?
Mme Blunt: I have employees in Denver, Boulder, and Boston so we try to attend the events in the locations we can reach, and we are all members of networking organizations. Twitter is huge, I’ve met a lot of people over twitter, everyone is responsive and always willing to chat about the latest in the industry.
CCC: What's your strategy to get clients/sales?
Mme Blunt: Pay attention to what customers need, our main goal is to identify what is making customers happy and what tools they use the most. Greenseek will continue to offer what our customers need.
CCC: What are absolute essentials for starting a business like yours?
Mme Blunt: You need to read and stay informed, with the laws and regulations changing and the sensitivity with this industry, you need to know what’s going on throughout the nation regarding marijuana. Not only will you be protecting yourself but you’ll be able to target your outreach and marketing efforts based on industry transitions.
CCC: How do you stay organized? What technology do you use? do you have an assistant?
Mme Blunt: Primarily we use Slack and Google Docs, as well as a few sales tools that help keep things in order.
like any job you need to be informed and quick on your feet. From talking with Mme Blunt we need to read up on the regulations and network like crazy. The best part about it is that everyone wants this industry to grow so there will be no shortage of help on your career journey. For more assistance visit greenseek.co now!
